Gvøðny Maria Áarstein (1991) was born and raised in the Faroe Islands and now works between the Faroe Islands and Denmark. She is an autodidact artist working across various media, including painting, video installations, and linocuts. Her practice delves into psychological and existential questions, often exploring the complex relationship between humans and nature. With a sense of wonder and an existential lens, her work traverses the realms of earth and space, reaching toward the unanswered questions that lie among the stars. Grounded in personal experience and marked by a keen sensitivity to both inner life and social realities, her art reflects the alienation of contemporary existence and a profound longing for belonging.

Gvøðny Maria Áarstein (1991) er fødd og uppvaksin í Føroyum og virkar nú bæði í Føroyum og Danmark. Hon er autodidakt listakvinna og arbeiðir við málningum, video-installatiónum, linoleumsprentum og øðrum miðlum. Í sínum verkum granskar hon psykologiskar tilveruspurningar og sambandið millum menniskja og náttúru. Við eini undrandi og eksistentiellari tilgongd letur hon listina ferðast millum jørð, rúmd og teir ósvaraðu spurningarnar, ið liggja millum stjørnurnar. Við persónligum útgangsstøði og við eini sterkari tilvitsku um bæði tað innara lívið og samfelagsligar spurningar, skapar hon list, ið speglar samtíðarins fremmandagering og longsul eftir at hoyra til.
